A post is doing rounds on social media which claims that Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been sentenced to five years in prison. The post consists of a video of Salman Khan and a voice-over with text suggesting that he has been arrested and sentenced five-year jail term in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
The text on the video read: “सलमान खान को गिरफ्तार किया गया है 5 साल की सजा सुनाई गई है;
सुशान्त सिह राजपूत को इन्साफ मिलेगा ( “वईरल कर दो वीडियो”)”
(English Translation: Salman Khan is arrested and has been sentenced to 5 years; Sushant Singh Rajput will get justice)

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be false.
We initiated our investigation with a Google search with relevant keywords. The search did not yield any results in support of the above claim. It is to be noted that if a megastar like Salman Khawould have been arrested, it would have made the national headline. But there was no recent report around Salman’s arrest or five-year jail sentence in connection with the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
We then put the screengrab of the video through Reverse Image Search and found the original video on Salman Khan’s official Instagram account which was dated July 20, 2019.
However, Salman Khan was found guilty in the 1998 blackbucks poaching case by the Jodhpur court in April 2018 for which was sentenced to five years in jail. Another report can be seen here.
After the verdict on April 5, 2018, he was taken into custody and taken to Jodhpur central jail. And on April 07, 2018, he was granted bail.
Meanwhile, Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai home on June 14, 2020.
With the above information, we can conclude that the claim of Salman Khan being arrested and sentenced to five years in prison in connection with the death of Sushant Singh Rajput is FALSE.
