Fact Check: This Video Of People Burning A Copy Of The Indian Constitution Is Not From Madhya Pradesh

A video of a some people burning a copy of the Indian Constitution is doing rounds on social media with a claim that it is a recent video from Madhya Pradesh.

Social media users are sharing the video with the caption:एमपी का यह वीडियो है इसमें यह लोग संविधान को जला रहे हैं और डॉक्टर बी आर अंबेडकर मुर्दाबाद के नारे लगा रहे हैं ऐसे लोगों पर देशद्रोह का मुकदमा दर्ज किया जाना चाहिए #जयभीम

(English translation: This is the video of MP. These people are burning the Constitution and shouting slogans against Dr BR Ambedkar Such people should be charged with treason.)

FACT CHECK 

NewsMobile fact-checked the video and found it to be old.

We ran a Reverse Image Search on the keyframes of the video and found the same video on YouTube, which was uploaded on January 2022.

This indicated that the video was old. so, we ran a keyword search and found that the same video was uploaded on YouTube on August 13, 2018. The video description read, ‘Burning the Constitution is rejecting democracy and secularism which is what India stands for. An FIR has been lodged by Akhil Bhartiya Bheem Sena against the fringe groups who burned the Constitution in New Delhi on August 10th 2018. The hooligans shouted anti-constitution, anti-Ambedkar and anti-SC/ST slogans while burning the Constitution’.

We also found a report by the Hindustan Times dated August 13, 2018, stating that a 40-year-old man was arrested for burning a copy of the Indian Constitution during a protest march on Parliament Street in New Delhi.

The report also mentioned that the person who organised the protest was booked under stringent sections of the Prevention of Insults of National Honour Act and Indian Penal Code.

The same incident was also covered by NDTV, TOI and Navbharat Times in August 2018.

Hence, it is clear that the video in circulation is old and is not from Madhya Pradesh.
