Fact Check: Video Of Congress MLA’s Speech In Himachal Pradesh Shared With Misleading Claim

A video is viral on social media, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was criticised in the Parliament of a foreign country.

The Facebook post reads: “दुनिया के संसद मे भी हमारे प्रधान शोषक का नाम” (English translation: Name of our chief exploiter in the world’s parliament, too?)

In the video, the minister can be heard questioning Prime Minister Modi on the money spent on his foreign visits and expenditure incurred in welcoming and hosting world leaders. He also questioned the money spent on Kumbh Mela and BJP offices before moving onto the topics of demonetisation, privatisation and fuel price hike.

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be false.

Putting keyframes through the Reverse Image Search, we found the same video shared by multiple YouTube channels in March 2021.

As per the title, the video was of Congress MLA Jagat Singh Negi, who was speaking at the  Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on privatisation. The videos can be seen here, here, here and here.

The same video was also available on the Facebook page of Congress MLA Jagat Singh Negi. It had been uploaded on March 18, 2021.

The official Facebook account of the Indian National Congress – Himachal Pradesh had also uploaded the video on March 21, 2021.

Moreover, when we ran a keyword search, we did not find any recent video or report to support the viral claim.

Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the video is from India and the post is misleading.
