Fact Check: Video From Pakistan Shared As That From Telangana With Communal Angle

Date:

A video showing several people climbing a building and some knocking on the door downstairs is widely shared on social media, claiming that these are the visuals from Telangana. It is claimed that some people in Telangana forced their way into the youth’s house and shouted provocative slogans.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “ये दृश्य पाकिस्तान की नही है तेलंगाना की है. *हिंदूओ के घरो मे जबरन घुस रहे सिर तन से जुदा के नारे लगा रहे है. देखो ये सब और नींद से जागो आपका साथ देने कोई नही आयेगा न नेता न पुलिस न कोई संगठन. मीडिया को हैदराबाद में घुसने नहीं दिया जा रहा है. अपनी सुरक्षा के इंतजाम करो,, वरना फिर वही दृश्य देखोगे जो कश्मीर मे देखा था” (English translation: This scene is not of Pakistan, but Telangana. The heads who are forcibly entering the houses of Hindus are raising slogans of separation from the body. Look at all this and wake up from your sleep that no one will come to support you, neither politicians nor police or any media organisation is allowed to enter Hyderabad. Make arrangements for your safety, otherwise, you will see the same scene which was seen in Kashmir.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.

Using the InVid Tool, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and performed a Reverse Image Search. This search directed us to a tweet that carried the same viral video with the text: “A Hindu sanitation worker #AshokKumar is hounded in Rabia Centre, Sadar, Hyderabad of Pakistan in a false case of Blasphemy. There is a total of 18 Hindus living in the area, extremists tried to harm them. Mob seeking ‘SAR TAN SAI JUDA’.” According to this, the video is from Hyderabad in Pakistan.

A video news report, published by CNBC Voice, dated August 22, 2022, has carried the same viral video. The caption reads: “Hindu minorities are being persecuted continuously in Hyderabad, Pakistan. After a clash with a local resident here, a man from the Hindu community was targeted by accusing him of blasphemy. Apart from this, a fake case was also registered against him. A video of this incident has also surfaced, in which the crowd is climbing on a building with the help of a balcony.”

According to the news in Hindustan Times, dated August 22, 2022, a case has been registered against a Hindu employee in Pakistan for blasphemy. The police resorted to lathi charge and dispersed the crowd that had gathered near the building. On August 21, Pakistani journalist Mubasher Zaidi tweeted the video and wrote that the Hyderabad police dispersed the violent mob. They were demanding handover of the Hindu Safai Karamchari accused of blasphemy. The police claim that the sweeper was targeted due to a personal dispute.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that a video from Pakistan is being shared as that from Telangana with communal claims.
