Fact Check: Old Video Of Nitin Gadkari Falsely Linked To His Removal From BJP Parliamentary Board

According to a report by The Times of India, dated August 25, 2022, senior BJP functionary and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari was dropped from the party’s parliamentary board.

In the above context, a video of Nitin Gadkari is going viral, in which he says: “Leaders who make promises are popular. And leaders who don’t fulfil those promises are flogged by the populace.”

The video is shared with a caption hinting that it is due to this remark that he was removed from the parliamentary board. The caption associated with the video reads: “गडकरी जी का वो बयान जिसके बाद मोदी शाह की जोड़ी ने उन्हें संसदीय बोर्ड से बाहर कर दिया.” (English translation: Gadkari ji‘s statement after which Modi-Shah pair expelled him from the parliamentary board.)

NewsMobile did the fact check, and found it to be misleading.

On searching with appropriate keywords, we found the same video uploaded by India TV, dated January 28, 2019. It was shared with the title: “Nitin Gadkari’s remarks on ‘fake promises by leaders before polls’ sparks controversy.”

Also, the same video had been uploaded by ANI news, dated January 27, 2019, with a description: “Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari today said that although people like leaders who show them dreams, such leaders also get kicked out if they don’t fulfil what they promised.”

Hence we can ascertain that the viral video is from 2019, and it is misleading.
