Fact Check: Old Video From Tripura Shared As TMC Leader Slipped While Kicking Football At Khela Hobe Dibas

Date:

On August 16, 2022, The Trinamool Congress observed Khela Hobe Dibas, where party leaders organised football matches and took out rallies in West Bengal to promote sports. Following this, a video started making the rounds on social media, claiming that a TMC leader slipped while kicking a football at Khela Hobe Dibas.

The video is being shared with the text: ফুটবলে লাথি মারতে গিয়ে উল্টে ফুটবলই তৃণমূল বিধায়ককে লাথি মেরে দিল! #খেলা_হবে_দিবস (English translation: While kicking football, the football itself kicked the Trinamool MLA! #Khela_hobe_divas)

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be false.

Extracting keyframes of the video, we found the same video shared on YouTube in 2019.

The same video was also published on 9gags in August 2017.

This indicated that the video had been on the Internet since 2017. The same video also had been uploaded on YouTube channel The Correspondent in August 2017, with a title: “Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy Slipped while kicking football.”

Stv Tripura, dated August 8, 2017, had uploaded the same video with a title: “MLA Gopal Roy tumble down In Astabal Maidan (renamed to Swami Vivekananda Maidan), Agartala, 09 08 2017.”

Thus, it can be concluded that it’s an old video from Tripura, and is not related to the recent Khela Hobe Dibas in West Bengal.
