A video of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is widely shared on social media, in which he is seen speaking against the government over the rising inflation.
In the video, he is heard saying: “Wrong economic policy of the government, wrong economic planning and corruption are the three main reasons for high inflation. And this government cannot solve it. A protest over the rising inflation has been lodged against the Prime Minister. The manner in which the petrol price was increased yesterday. The way prices of petrol and diesel have increased 11 times in a year. Due to this, the prices of consumer goods have also increased. And the middle-class people have to bear the burden.”
The caption associated with the video claims that Rajnath Singh is taking a jibe at the current BJP government over the recent inflation. A social media user shared the video with a caption: “मंहगाई पर राजनाथ सिंह ने अपनी सरकार को घेरा.” (English translation: “Rajnath Singh bashed his own government over the rising inflation.”)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile did the fact check, and found it to be false.
We found the same video uploaded by official YouTube channel of Bhartiya Janata Party on September 17, 2011, with a title: “BJP Byte on Petrol Price Hike & Sh. Narender Modi’s Fast: Sh. Rajnath Singh: 16.09.2011.”
A DNA India report, dated September 16, 2011, says: “Slamming the increase in petrol prices, BJP leader Rajnath Singh alleged that it was a fallout of the government’s “direction-less” economic policy.” The report further quoted him as saying: “The repeated increase in prices of petrol and diesel was affecting both middle-classes and lower-classes the most. Prices of daily essentials would also rise because of the hike in oil prices.”
But Narendra Modi was sworn in as the 14th Prime Minister of India on May 26, 2014. In 2011, Congress was in power and BJP was in opposition.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is fake.
