Death of the nine-year-old Dalit student in Jalore district of Rajasthan has left the entire nation in shock. Against this backdrop, a video is being widely shared on social media claiming that it shows last rites of the boy.
The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “इन्द्र मेघवाल भाई की अंतिम यात्रा की भावपूर्ण श्रद्धांजलि justice for Indra Meghwal” (English translation: Emotional tribute to Indra Meghwal bhai’s last journey… Justice for Indra Meghwal)

Using the InVid Tool, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and performed a Reverse Image Search. This search directed us to a YouTube channel that carried the same viral video on August 12, 2021, with a caption: “jaunpur ka lal jilajeet shhid bharat mata ki jai.” This clearly means that the video is not recent.
Another YouTube channel has also carried the same viral video on August 14, 2020, with a caption: “शहीद Jilajeet Yadav को अंतिम विदाई देने के लिए Jaunpur में जनसैलाब। Martyr Jilajeet Yadav”
A Dainik Bhaskar report — dated August 11, 2020 — says that Jiljit was martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. The body of Jiljit was brought to his native village, Dhaurhara Ijri in Jaunpur.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old unrelated video has been falsely shared as the last rites of the Dalit boy. Therefore, the viral claim is misleading.
