Fact Check: MS Dhoni Is NOT Team India’s Mentor for the Upcoming Asia Cup & T20 World Cup

Date:

Ahead of the Asia Cup, a tweet attributing to BCCI has surfaced on the Internet, saying that former skipper MS Dhoni has been appointed as Team India’s mentor for the upcoming Asia Cup and T20 World Cup.

The tweet reads: “NEWS Former INDIAN Captain Shri Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named as the mentor of Team India for the Asia Cup and the t201 World Cup. Welcome onboard, @msdhoni”

The above post can be seen here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be false.

After closely observing the screenshot of the tweet, we noticed that the Twitter handle mentioned is @BCCIIIII. Also, there is a change in the name and profile picture of the handle.

But, the official Twitter handle of BCCI is @BCCI.

Scanning through the official Twitter handle and BCCI website, we could not find any communication from the cricket body on MS Dhoni being the Indian squad’s mentor. There was even no authentic news report about it.

Hence, we can conclude that the viral claim is false. In fact, MS Dhoni was Team India’s mentor in T20 World Cup in 2021.
