Fact Check: This Video of Autorickshaw Driver’s ‘Rain Dance’ Is NOT from Kerala

A video of an autorickshaw driver dancing on a flooded road is being shared on social media with a claim that it is from Kerala.

The video is being shared with a caption: “ആറുകോല്ലമായി പിണറായി ഭരണമികവിൽ ആറാം കൊല്ലം മരുമോന്റേ പദ്ധതി…മൾട്ടി പർപ്പസ് ഹൈവേ ലോകത്തിൽ നമ്പർ വൺ കേരളം..” (English translation: Sixth year of Pinarayi’s administration.. there is a project by his son-in-law. Kerala is the number one multipurpose highway in the world.)

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be misleading.

Multiple media reports have stated that the video is from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The Times of India published the same video on July 14, 2022, with the title: “Viral video: Bhopal autorickshaw driver’s rain dance has netizens smiling.”

Times Now also uploaded the same on YouTube with a caption: “This auto driver’s dance in Bhopal flood water is breaking the Internet #shorts”

We found many other reports claiming that the video was from Gujarat. The reports can be seen here and here. One of the reports identified the man as Naresh Sondarva, a resident of the Bharuch district in Gujarat.

On searching further with relevant keywords, we found that the video was also uploaded as Naresh Sondarva on Instagram on July 12, 2022.

In his video, he also tagged a page called incredible.bharuch.

Thus, based on the above information, it is clear that the viral video is NOT from Kerala.
