Fact Check: Does This Image Show Protest Against ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ In Jalandhar? Here’s the Truth

The movie Laal Singh Chaddha has received a lot of backlash from the audience primarily because of the lead actor Aamir Khan’s politically sensitive comments made in 2015.

Against this backdrop, an image showing some Sikhs carrying the movie post is being widely shared on social media, claiming that it depicts people protesting against the movie.

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “लाल सिंह चड्ढा का जालंधर में विरोध लगे आमिर खान मुर्दाबाद के नारे”  (English translation: Laal Singh Chaddha‘s protest in Jalandhar. Slogans of Aamir Khan murdabad were raised.)

Doing a simple Reverse Image Search with relevant keywords, we found a news report published by the Indian Express on August 12, 2022, that carried an image similar to the viral one.

The image caption reads: “Sikhs protest in favour of Laal Singh Chaddha”

According to the article, during the screening at PVR cineplex in Jalandhar, Shiv Sena members reached and protested against the movie. After this, police stopped the screening after talking to the manager of the cinema hall. Later, people of the Sikh organisations reached there and they raised slogans in support of the movie.

A similar picture can be seen in the news published in Tribune India on August 11. According to the news, Shiv Sena protested against the movie outside MBD Mall in Jalandhar. The situation became tense when the Sikh organisation also reached there. He supported the movie opposing the Shiv Sainiks.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral image does not show a protest against the movie Laal Singh Chaddha in Jalandhar.
