Fact Check: Old Image from Madhya Pradesh Falsely Shared As Big Potholes in Kerala

An image of a dilapidated road is being widely circulated along with a picture of Left Democratic Front (LDF) convener E.P. Jayarajan. Sharing this image, social media users claim that it shows the pathetic condition of Kerala roads amid rain.

The image is shared on Facebook in Malayalam language: “ഡാമുകളിലെ ജലം സംഭരിക്കാനുള്ള ശേഷി ഇപ്പോൾ കേരളത്തിലെ റോഡുകൾക്കുണ്ട് അതുകൊണ്ട് പേടി വേണ്ട” (English translation: Roads in Kerala now have the capacity to store water in dams, so there is no need to fear)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.

Through the Reverse Image Search, we got the Twitter account of the Indian Youth Congress’ President that posted the same viral image on August 18, 2021, claiming that this image is from Madhya Pradesh.

We also found a similar image published in a news report by Dainik Bhaskar in 2021. The article reads: “The 52-km road from Ujjain to Tanodiya of the only National Highway connecting Ujjain-Agar-Kota has become risky due to potholes. There are about 427 small and big potholes on this route.”

Below is the comparison between the viral image and the image from 2021.

Thus, it is confirmed that an old image from Madhya Pradesh is falsely shared as pathetic conditions of roads in Kerala. Therefore, the viral claim is misleading.
