Sunday Read | Aamir Khan Refused To Read ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ Script For Two Years, Here’s Why

Laal Singh Chaddha starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan has become the talk of the town. The movie is set for its release on August 11.

Prior to the release, the cast, Amir Khan and Kareena Kapoor were recently seen on the ‘Koffee With Karan’ show where Aamir Khan revealed that he is “stressed” about his performance in Laal Singh Chaddha.

In the talk show, Aamir revealed that Kareena was not the first choice for the role and he did not read the script of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ for two years, thinking that no film can stand with the original Oscar-winning ‘Forrest Gump’.

Referring to his upcoming film, Khan then explained the satisfaction a filmmaker feels when they achieve their vision or come close to it. He added that while director Advait Chandan has done a commendable job on ‘Laal Singh Chaddha,’ this has exacerbated his nervousness further.

He said, “We are excited that we have made a good film, lekin agar film logon ko pasand nahin aayi, bahut dil toot jaayega.”

Khan told Karan that back in 2008 at the chat over dinner after the premiere of ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’, Atul Kulkarni (screenplay writer) and him named ‘Forrest Gump’ as their favorite film, to which the next day, Atul Kulkarni started writing the screenplay for ‘Laal Sing Chaddah,’ he told that Atul wrote the first draft in just 2 weeks.

Khan mentioned that he didn’t listen or read the script because he thought why and who would make an adaption of iconic, Oscar winning ‘Forrest Gump’, but, then he said “after two years when I heard the film, I fell in love with it.”

As per reports, Amir Khan spent 9 year to get the the rights to recreate the film ‘Forrest Gump’ as ‘Laal Singh Chaddha.’

In another interesting segment, the talk show highlighted how Kareena had to go through a screen test for the movie to see how the character looks with the actress. Khan told that both, Khan and the makers of the film were looking for fresh and young female actors for the female lead. Since the movie portrayed a span from 18 to 50 years, it was decided that the younger version of the female protagonist would befit younger female actors, then they came across an ad of Kareena Kapoor where they decided to cast her.

Amir Khan last appeared in films in 2018, ‘Thugs Of Hindostan.’ He performed in remarkable films like ‘Lagaan,’ ‘3 Idiots,’ ‘Dangal,’ and ‘Tare Zameen Par.’
