Following the recent hike in GST, a claim started doing rounds on social media claiming that there will be 18% GST on Crematorium Services.

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be false.
We first scanned through the recommendations from the 47th GST Council Meet and found that crematorium services were not included in the tax slab.
We further scanned through the official website of the GST council, and the press release dated June 29, 2022, stated that “works contract for roads, bridges, railways, metro, effluent treatment plant, crematorium etc,” would increase from 12% to 18%.
Digging further, we came across a Tweet by Press Information Bureau (PIB) clarifying that the viral claim is misleading and there will be no GST on the funeral, burial, crematorium, or mortuary services.
