An image is extensively shared on social media showing a man working on computer. The image is shared with a caption, claiming that it is of a sculpture carved in the Thaalagiri Shiva Temple by Narasimhavarman II, a ruler of the Pallava kingdom.
The image is shared with a caption that reads, “1400 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு பல்லவ மன்னன் இரண்டாம் நரசிம்மனால் கட்டப்பட்ட தாளகிரி சிவாலயத்தில் கம்ப்யூட்டர் மற்றும் கீ போர்டுடன் ஒரு சிற்பம் கல்லிலே சுவற்றில் உள்ளது இது எப்படி சாத்தியம் அப்போது மின்சாரம் இல்லை எந்த ஒரு நாள் ஒளியை பயன் படுத்தியிர்பார்கள் அல்லது எந்த வளியை கையாண்டிருப்பார்கள் !” (English translation: 1,400 years ago, a sculpture with a computer and keyboard in Thaalagiri Sivalayam was built by Pallava King Narasimhavarman II. NewsMobile did the fact-check, and found it to be fake.
On doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found the same image uploaded by a website, Second Life Marketplace. The image was shared with a caption: This piece is part of our Artwork de Mexico collection.
Another website, Strange Horizon, had also uploaded the image on October 9, 2006. The site mentioned that the image was an artwork done by Raul Cruz . The website says: “Raul Cruz (a.k.a. Racrufi) has been working as a freelance illustrator since 1983 for a variety of clients, in Mexico (Fernandez Publishing, Roberto Gaudelli, Montage, and more), the US (Marvel Comics and the magazines Heavy Metal and Spectrum, among others) and Argentina (Lumen Publishing).”
The viral image has also been published on the cover of a book “Cosmos Latinos: An Anthology of Science Fiction from Latin America and Spain.”
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is fake.
