England’s All-Rounder Ben Stokes Announces Retirement

Date:

New Delhi: England All-rounder Ben Stokes announces that he will retire from ODI cricket after the game against South Africa in Durham on Tuesday.

Ben Stokes took to Twitter and said that “I will play my last game for England in ODI cricket on Tuesday in Durham.” He further added that it has been an incredibly tough decision to make.

Stokes has represented England in 104 ODI games and is set to retire from his home ground Seat Unique Riverside. In his 11 years of ODI career, Stokes has scored 2919 runs with three centuries and 74 wickets.

Talking about the reason for his decision, he added that “Three formats are just unsustainable for me now. Not only do I feel that my body is letting me down because of the schedule and what is expected for us, but I also feel that I am taking the place of another player.”

Ben Stokes is remembered for his instrumental innings in the finals of the World Cup 2019 leading his team to its first-ever World Cup win. He was also named “Player-of-the-Match” in the World Cup finals.

He further added that with this decision he can focus and commit to the test and T20 cricket. Stokes in his statement added “I would like to wish Jos Buttler, Matthew Mott, the players and the support staff every success going forward. We have made great strides in white-ball cricket over the past seven years, and the future looks bright.”
