PM Modi Announces A Day of National Mourning As Mark of Respect For Shinzo Abe

New Delhi: Following the demise of former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced a day of National Mourning across the country on Saturday.

PM Modi in a tweet expressed that he is “shocked and saddened beyond words at the tragic demise of my dearest friend Shinzo Abe.”

PM Modi recalled him as a “towering global statesman, an outstanding leader, and a remarkable administrator”. He also added how Abe spent his life making Japan a better place.

Recalling his friendship with Shinzo Abe, PM Modi said that their friendship goes back years to the time when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat and continued when he became Prime Minister. He further added how Shinzo Abe’s sharp understanding of economy and global affairs left a deep impression on him.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared moments from his last visit in Japan where he met ex-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for the last time. He said that “He was witty and insightful as always. Little did I know that this would be our last meeting. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the Japanese people.”

Talking about his contribution in strengthening Indo-Japan relations he added “Mr. Abe made an immense contribution to elevating India-Japan relations to the level of a Special Strategic and Global Partnership.”

PM Modi also shared a picture with Shinzo Abe and recalled his passion for efforts of strengthening India-Japan relations.
