India Vs England Test: Rohit Sharma Ruled Out From The Final, Bumrah To Lead

Date:

Edgbaston: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Thursday that the  Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the fifth and the final test match against England starting from July 1.

Rishabh Pant has been named as the Vice-captain of the test side. Pant has recently captained the T20 side against South Africa in India.

According to reports, Rohit Sharma will miss the final game after testing positive for COVID during the practice game. He was isolated in the team hotel room and was kept under the observation of the Indian medical staff.

With Rohit Sharma out of the equation in the final game, Jasprit Bumrah will captain the side in the test against England.

Jasprit Bumrah is set to make a historic moment after being the first captain to lead the test side of India after a gap of three decades. Kapil Dev was the last seamer to captain the test side.

Currently, KL Rahul is also out of the team due to injury. Mayank Agarwal was added to the squad as a reserve player for the final match and might open the batting innings with Shubman Gill.

Earlier, Ravichandran Ashwin tested positive ahead of his travel to England and joined the squad later after recovering from Covid-19.
