IND vs ENG: Mayank Agarwal To Join Indian Test Squad Ahead Of Final Match

Date:

Mumbai: As Rohit Sharma tests positive for COVID during the practice match before the fifth and deciding test match against England, Mayank Agarwal has been called up to join the test squad.

Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma is still kept in isolation at the team hotel and the management is waiting to see how he recovers with a few days in hand for the final match.

The Board Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has made no major announcement on a change of captaincy for the game.

The opening pair is in question with in-form KL Rahul out of the equation after suffering an injury ahead of the test match. The squad will have to take a call on the batsman who will replace Rohit (just in case) and pad up with Shubman Gill.

Mayank will join the squad as a standby player with a ready and available option for the final squad selection ahead of the vital game. India is on track with a 2-1 lead in the series against England. The Indian side is yet to win a test series in England since 2008 and the team will be looking to achieve this major milestone as a group.
