Fact Check: News About Demise Of Bollywood Actor Dharmendra Is Fake

Many social media users are sharing a photo of Bollywood actor Dharmendra with a claim that the legendary actor has passed away.

The image is being shared with a caption that reads, “ਇਸ ਫ਼ਾਨੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਲਵਿਦਾ ਆਖ ਗਿਆ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ #ripਧਰਮਿੰਦਰ” (English translation, “Punjab’s son bid adieu to this mortal world #ripDharminder“)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be fake.

On search with appropriate keywords on Google, we could not find any media reports on Dharmendra’s death.

We found that Dharmendra tweeted on June 21, 2022. In the tweet, he shared a video clip of his song with a caption that read, “ With Love from Nazia…Jhoom Jhoom jaoon ji chahta hai Dosto.” The viral post of his death was mostly shared on June 19, 2022. 

We found that Hindustan Times had reported that Dharmendra’s son Bobby Deol had refuted the claim of his death. The report read, “Bobby Deol has clarified that Dharmendra is at home and he is recovering. Dharmendra was hospitalised at the beginning of May due to a muscle spasm. Reports claimed that the veteran actor had been hospitalised again recently.”

Dharmendra had also tweeted a video to tell his fan and followers that he is alive.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral news is fake.
