Anti-Agnipath Agitation: Protesters Set Trains On Fire In Bihar

Chhapra: Amid the agitation against the Centre’s Agnipath recruitment scheme, atleast three trains were set on fire by protestors in the Gopalganj and Kaimur districts of Bihar on Thursday.

With the news of the new recruitment scheme announced by the central government on recruitment of youth in the army for a shorter-term has made several aspirants of the armed forces unhappy and upset. The aspirants are unhappy with no pension provision, the length of service, and the age restriction that makes them ineligible.

Anger and protests have spread all across Bihar with the youth lying down on railway tracks, blocking roads, and demanding a return of the scheme. Rakesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police in Kaimur district said that “They are protesting on the railway tracks. We are trying to pacify them. We are making an effort to clear the railway track. We are monitoring the situation,”.

Huge crowds have gathered in Chhapra. Jehanabad, Munger, and Nawada areas in Bihar. Protesters demand the “old recruitment process back.”
