The Union Public Service Commission declared the 2021 Civil Services Exam results on May 30, 2022, with women securing the top three ranks. Soon after, a post started making the rounds on social media, claiming that the person who bagged the fourth rank is also a woman.

The post read: “1. Shruti Sharma 2. Ankita Agrawal 3. Gamini Singla & 4. Aishwarya Verma. All four toppers of #UPSC CSE 2021 are women! This will inspire many girls and their family members. Congrats to all successful candidates. Best wishes to those who will try again.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found the claim to be misleading.

We ran a keyword search and found multiple media reports stating that 4th rank topper Aishwarya Verma is a male.

According to the report, Aishwarya Verma did his schooling in Ujjain, Neemuch and Katni in Madhya Pradesh, and got his BE degree from Pant Nagar University of Agriculture and Technology, Uttarakhand, in 2017.
