Fact Check: Kanpur Dust Storm Visual Shown As A West Bengal Scene

A video of a dust storm is being shared on social media with a claim that the video is from West Bengal.

Facebook users are sharing the post with the caption: “আজকে মালদা মেডিক্যাল কলেজে রোডে ঝড়ে কী অবস্থা মানুষের…” (English translation: The condition of people in Malda Medical College today in the storm…)

Here’s the link to the above post.

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found that the video is from Uttar Pradesh.

We extracted the keyframes of the video and found the same video in a tweet, dated May 23, 2022. As per the caption, the video is from Kanpur.

(English translation: The 70-kmph storm created a ruckus in Kanpur. Tin shed at the Hallett Hospital blew in the air, hitting a bike rider. There was a stir in the hospital premises. Watch live)

We found the same screenshot in a report by Live Hindustan, dated May 23, 2022.

Different visuals of the storm were also covered in a report by News 18. The title reads:  “Kanpur typhoon: Cloud of dust everywhere in Kanpur, a stampede in the market”

Hence, it is clear that the visuals are not from West Bengal.
