Metro Man E. Sreedharan, who contested from Kerala’s Palakkad constituency as a BJP candidate during the Kerala Assembly Elections 2021, had lost against Shafi Parambil of Congress, by a margin of 3,859 votes.
But in the above context, many social media users are claiming that he has been appointed as a member of the United Nations Advisory Council.
The text embedded on the post reads: “രത്നം തിരിച്ചറിയാത്ത പാലക്കാട്ടുകാർ കോടി കോടി അഭിവാദ്യങ്ങൾ ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്രസഭ ഉപദേശകസമിതി അംഗമായി ഇന്ത്യയുടെ മെട്രോമാൻ ഈ ശ്രീധരനെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു.” (English translation: “Palakkad people who didn’t recognise the gem. Millions of greetings. Sreedharan was selected by the Metroman of India as a member of the United Nations Advisory Council.”)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile did a fact-check, and found the claim to be misleading.
On searching with keywords, “E Sreedharan, UN,” we found a report published by The Hindu on September 19, 2015. The report stated that “Principal Adviser of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) E. Sreedharan has accepted an invitation of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to serve on his High-level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport (HLAG-ST).”
A similar report was also published by The Times of India on September 18, 2015. According to the report, E Sreedharan was invited to the United Nations’ HLAG-ST.
We also found no recent media reports about him being appointed as a member of the United Nations Advisory Council.
Hence, we can ascertain that the viral claim is misleading.
