Meet Shreya Lenka: India’s First K-Pop Star

Date:

New Delhi: India is witnessing a unique and new genre of music that is quite different in terms of language. K-pop has broken the barriers of ethnicity, language, and cultures across the world with its music and mass fan following.

Indian music lovers too couldn’t stop themselves from joining the wave and now we have got our very own K-pop singer. Shreya Lenka has finally joined the K-pop group “Blackswan” after a rigorous process of audition. The 18-year-old singer and dancer was born in Odisha and received training in classical dance and music.

In an interview with Kalinga TV, her father Avinash Lenka said that “Though I had faith in her hard work, I never expected that Shreya would make it. Despite all my misgivings about her future, I encouraged her to follow her passion for dancing as she always wanted to be a dancer and participated in several dance competitions.”

Shreya (who goes by the name of Sriya) made it to the top of the top two of the auditions after moving ahead of 4,000 applicants who applied to be part of BlackSwan.

Back in 2020, Blackswan consists of Fatou, Judy, and Younghuen. The audition for the next member was announced by the girl group after Hyeme quit the group back in 2020. Shreya and Gabriela Dalcin from Brazil went all the way to the finals after which the group announced that both of them will be part of the girl group.

Blackswan announced the group will launch a new album with both the new members in the coming days.
