A video of Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan is being circulated online, claiming that it was taken after he was released from Sitapur Jail in Uttar Pradesh on May 20, 2022.
In the video, he can be heard saying ‘now those who will benefit from opposing it, will oppose and those who will benefit from supporting, will support’. After the reporter asked him if he supports the statement, he says, ‘we are finding it difficult to save our lives, what would we get from someone’s statement’.
Facebook users are sharing the video with the caption: “#आजम_खान अरे हमारी तो खुदी फटी पड़ी है! हमें किसी के बयान से क्या लेना देना, ये खौफ देख कर अच्छा लगा” (English translation: #Azam_Khan Oh our own life is in turmoil, what do we have to do with someone’s statement. It’s nice to see this fear)
The text embedded in the video also claims that the SP leader and the reporter were talking about a statement from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

NewsMobile fact-checked the video and found it to be old.
While looking for similar posts on Facebook, we found that the same video was shared back in December 2019.
We also noticed the logo of News 24 in the top right corner of the video. Taking a cue from this, we ran a keyword search and also scanned through the YouTube channel of News 24.
First, we found a report by Amar Ujala, dated December 15, 2019, mentioning that the video was widely shared, but its context was not clear. We also found that the longer version of the video was uploaded on YouTube channel of News24 UP & Uttarakhand on December 13, 2019.
Upon listening to the video carefully, we came to know that they were discussing a statement by Rahul Gandhi, back in December 2019.
So, it is clear that the viral video is from 2019, and was not taken after the release of the SP leader.
