New Delhi: Weeks after acquiring Twitter, Elon Musk on Tuesday broke his silence on the restoration of former US President Donald Trump’s Twitter handle.
Elon Musk during an event vouched against the permanent ban of an individual from the platform, instead, he said that harmful Tweets should be removed or made invisible or a temporary suspension.
“I think It was a morally bad decision to be clear and foolish in the extreme, ‘permanent ban’ undermines the trust of users on the social media platform,” Musk said.
“If there are tweets that are wrong and bad, those should be either deleted or made invisible, and a suspension–a temporary suspension–is appropriate, but not a permanent ban,” he added.
He backed the decision of Twitter to impose a ban on Donald Trump but also said that it ‘alienated’ large numbers of users and ultimately led to Donald Trump not having a voice.
Co-Founder and Former CEO, Jack Dorsey who supported Elon Musk’s takeover bid said that he agrees with Musk. Jack said that he agrees with the view that permanent bans are a failure.
In a tweet, he said: “It was a business decision, it shouldn’t have been. and we should always revisit our decisions and evolve as necessary. I stated in that thread and still believe that permanent bans of individuals are directionally wrong”. He further added that “Twitter isn’t a bar”.
