A video is being shared on social media with a claim that ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ slogans were raised during a match in IPL 2022. In the video, a man sitting in the middle of the audience is raising slogans of ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’.
The statement of ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ was used by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in 2018 while targeting PM Modi during the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
The video is shared on Facebook with a Hindi caption, “आईपीएल के बीच लाइव कॉमेंटरी… “चौकीदार चोर है”

Starting with our investigation, we performed a keyword search but could not find any recent media report corroborating the viral claim. Had such an incident happened during an IPL match, mainstream media would have covered it.
Searching further, we found the same video uploaded on a Facebook page on April 19, 2019. The same video was also uploaded on Twitter on April 11, 2019.
Taking a cue from this, we searched further and found multiple news articles that reported the same incident in 2019 stating, “Slogans of ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ were raised during the IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.”
On 26 March 2019, BBC also published a news article regarding this. The article stated that in a match held in Jaipur, slogans of ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ were raised in response to the slogans of ‘Modi-Modi’.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old video is being falsely revived as ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ slogans were raised in IPL 2022.
