SC Cancels Bail Granted To Minister’s Son In Lakhimpur Kheri Violence Case

Date:

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday cancelled the bail granted to Ashish Mishra, accused of Lakhimpur Kheri violence. The court has also ordered him to surrender within a week.

The Allahabad High Court had granted bail to Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra but the Supreme Court has set aside the verdict and ordered him to present himself within a week in the prison.

The bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana, Justice Hima Kohli, and Justice Surya Kant directed the order. The apex court remanded the matter back to the Allahabad High Court to hear the issue afresh.

On October 3, 2021, a convoy of three vehicles including an SUV ran over people protesting against the farm bill in Lakhimpur Kheri.

The SUV allegedly owned by Ashish Mishra rammed over people killing four farmers, and a journalist with several others being injured in the incident.

The whole incident was taped in a video. This led to violence over the incident and two BJP workers and the driver of the vehicle were killed.
