Date:

A video is widely being shared on social media in which a man one can see a man being forced by a crowd to say sorry to a group of girls and put saffron stole on them. The video is being shared with a claim that a teacher from the minority community forced some girls from the majority community to offer namaz. The post further claims that the Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) came to their rescue and asked the man to say sorry and put saffron stole on girls.

The video is being shared with a caption that reads, “महाराष्ट्र के ईसाई स्कूल में एक मुस्लिम टीचर ने जबरन लड़कियों को स्कूल में नमाज पढ़वाई थी। फिर राज ठाकरे की मनसेना के कार्यकर्ता ने उसी मुस्लिम के पास से केसरिया खेस पहनवायाजय श्री राम ” (English translation, “In a Christian school in Maharashtra, a Muslim teacher forced girls to offer Namaz in school. Then the workers of Raj Thackeray’s MNS made the same Muslim man put saffron stole on girls, Jai Shri Ram.”)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be Misleading.

On doing a Google Reverse Image Search with one of the screenshots of the viral video, we found that the longer version of the same video was shared by many Facebook users claiming that the video was from Maharashtra’s Nashik where the staff of a cinema hall  forced women to remove the saffron scarf. Some posts can be seen here, here and here.

Taking a clue, we searched further with appropriate keywords and found a report published by The Hindustan Times on March 24, 2022. According to the report, “Scuffle broke out at a cinema hall in Nashik after some women arrived to watch ‘The Kashmir Files’. The women, who wore saffron stoles, were allegedly asked to remove them by the management. The women objected to removing their stoles and the matter escalated in a brawl between the cinema hall management and them.”

The Times of India had also reported about the incident on March 24, 2022.

News agency ANI had also tweeted about the incident. According to ANI: A scuffle broke out at a film theatre in Nashik after some women who arrived to watch ‘The Kashmir Files’, wearing saffron stoles, were allegedly made to remove the same before entering the hall Police say “There was a brawl that later ended. It’s peaceful now.”

Hence, a video of a scuffle at Nashik’s film theatre during the screening of ‘The Kashmir Files’ has gone viral with a misleading caption.
