Fact Check: Old Video From Pakistan Viral With False Link To Uttar Pradesh

Date:

A video of a few men from the minority community being punished is being circulated on social media with a claim that the incident happened in Uttar Pradesh.

Facebook users are sharing the video with the caption, “आदरणीय बुलडोजर बाबा #योगीजी का पॉल्ट्री फार्म… #atalgpt #smsarvesh #factsfromsarvesh #MYogiAdityanath #gptripathi #NarendraModi #JPNadda”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the video and found the claim attached to be false.

We extracted keyframes of the video using the InVid tool and put them through Reverse Image Search. Subsequently, we found a link to the same Facebook video, uploaded on March 28, 2020. As per the video caption, the incident took place in Mansehra in Pakistan.

We found the official Twitter account of Mansehra Police and found a tweet dated March 30, 2020. Replying to the same video, Manshara Police said, “This incident has already been brought to the notice of DIG Hazara and DPO Manshara and police stations have been directed to refrain from giving such punishments from now on. An inquiry has also been set up, we will keep you updated.” (translated)

NewsMobile had debunked the video in 2020 when it was being shared with a claim that people were being punished in UP for defying lockdown.

https://newsmobile.in/articles/2020/04/07/were-muslims-punished-in-up-for-defying-lockdown-heres-the-truth-being-this-video/

This proves that the video in question is not from INDIA. Hence, the claim is false.
