Fact Check: Old Video From Hyderabad Falsely Linked To Karauli Clashes

In the wake of the recent communal tension in Karauli, Rajasthan, a video is being circulated online with a claim that a man from a minority community was threatening members of the majority community.

The video is being shared with the text, ” करौली जला कर आराम से घूम रहे आतंकी हिंदुओ को बोल रहे हैं ‘4 गाड़िया जलाई हैं हमने हमारे इलाके में, इतने में ही इतना तहलका मचा दिए तुम लोग। इतना डर काफी हैं तुम्हारे लोगों के लिए”

(Translation: Terrorists roaming around comfortably by burning Karauli. They are telling Hindus that ‘we have burnt 4 vehicles in our area, and you people have created so much chaos because of just this. This much fear is enough for your people’.)

Here’s the link to the above post.

NewsMobile fact-checked the following and found the video to be old.

Firstly, we analysed the video carefully and found that in some of the frames, the ‘name board’ of the shop behind the man is visible. We then carefully analysed each frame and found that the board said ‘Star Hotel’ and ‘Spl Green Tea’.

Taking a cue from this, we ran a search and found the hotel by the same name and board on Just dial. As per the details, the hotel was in Nizamabad, Telangana.

We also found that a hotel by the name ‘Star Hotel Green Tea Special’, which has a similar board, is located in Kumar Gali, Nizamabad, Telangana.

From this, we could establish that the video is from Telangana and not Rajasthan.

We then ran the keyframes of the video through a Reverse Image Search and found that the same video was shared on Facebook on May 1, 2020, with the caption, “डर तो बहुत है भाई तुम्हारा.. #हैदराबाद” (We do fear you a lot brother…#Hyderabad)

Moreover, we also found a tweet by Rajasthan Police, where they have refuted the claim and clarified that the video is not from Rajasthan.

Even though NewsMobile independently could not find the context of the video, it is clear that the video in circulation is old and is not related to recent communal tension in Karauli Rajasthan.
