Recently, an image has gone viral on social media platforms showing hundreds of fish lying on the road and some people collecting them in buckets. The image is being shared with a claim that it shows ‘Rain of Fish’ in Yoro, Honduras.
A Facebook user shared the image with the caption, “Yoro, Honduras: Rain of fish.”
The same image is also doing rounds on Twitter with the same claim.

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral image and found it to be shared with a misleading claim.
On performing a Reverse Image Search, we found this image in a Firstpost article that was published on March 20, 2016. As per the report, the image of fish scattered on the road was taken when a truck transporting 6800 kg of catfish met with an accident.
The caption with the image read, “People pick up catfish which have fallen from a truck on a street in Kaili, Guizhou province on 18 March. The door of a truck carrying 6800 kgs (14,991 lbs) of catfish was opened by accident as it travelled along a street in Kaili on Wednesday.. REUTERS.”
Daily Mail also carried the image.
We further further and found some reports about the ‘rain of fish’, also known as ‘Lluvia de peces’ or ‘Aguacero de pescado’ (‘downpour of fish’) in Yoro, Honduras. The phenomenon occurs 1 to 2 times a year and has been taking place in Yoro, Honduras. More details about it can be read here.
Therefore, with the above information, it can be concluded that an old photo of a catfish spilled from a truck in China is being falsely shared as ‘Rain of Fish’ in Honduras.
