India is a diverse country with a wide range of cultures, traditions, and celebrations. Every Indian believes in the idea of ‘unity in diversity.’
The country, on Saturday, is witnessing a blend of festivals as people across the country are celebrating diverse festivals; Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, Chaitra Navratri, Navreh, Sajibu Cheiraoba and Ramadan.
The celebrations other than Ramadan mark the start of a New Year, according to the Hindu community’s traditional calendars.
Today holds a special significance for the people from southern states; Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, they celebrate this day as Ugadi, people in Maharashtra and Goa celebrate the festival as ‘Gudi Padwa’.
The day is also known as ‘Chaitra Navratri’ in various regions of the country, known as ‘Navreh’ by Kashmiri Hindus, and as ‘Sajibu Cheiraoba’ by people in Manipur, by Malayalis as Vishu. Today’s date is significant not only because it symbolises the start of a new year, but also because it marks the beginning of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims fast for the entire month, praying for peace and guidance, offering charity or participating in humanitarian activities, and moving towards enlightening their souls.
With so many holy days converging today, Twitter is flooded with greetings and wishes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended wishes to people across various regions in the country.
आप सभी को नव संवत्सर की शुभकामनाएं। विक्रम संवत 2079 सबके जीवन में नया उत्साह और नई उमंग लेकर आए।
