India abstained from voting at the United Nations General Assembly seeking resolution of the military offence by the Russian in Ukraine and its humanitarian consequences in the war-torn eastern European countries.
The draft was however adopted with 140 member countries voting in favour of the resolution. A total of 38 member countries including South Africa and India abstained from the vote. Eritrea, Russia, Syria, Belarus, and Korea were the member countries that voted against the resolution.
India continues to keep the stand and said that “what is needed is a cessation of hostilities and urgent humanitarian assistance. The draft did not fully reflect those challenges.”
Earlier on Wednesday, India continued its stand to abstain from the vote in a UN Security Council meeting on a resolution by Russia.
The UNSC failed to pass the resolution as 12 members of the UNSC abstained and only two countries voted in favour of the resolution.
