On March 10, 2022, Bhartiya Janta Party won 255 seats (273 with allies) out of 403 seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, creating history by becoming the first government since 1987, to be re-elected in the state after completing its first term.
Following this, a Hindi newspaper clipping went viral on social media platforms with a claim that Union Minister Amit Shah will become the new Chief Minister of UP whereas Yogi Adityanath will become the Home Minister.
Several Facebook users are sharing the Hindi newspaper clipping. “Shah will be the new CM of UP! Yogi will be the new home minister,” reads the headline in Hindi.
NewsMobile fact-checked viral post and found it to be misleading.
We checked the claim thoroughly on the internet but did not find any credible report substantiating the claims made in the viral news clipping.
We found an India Today report published on March 18, 2022, according to which, Yogi Adityanath will take oath as the CM of UP for the second term on March 25, 2022. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other central ministers will be present at the ceremony.
We also checked the official social media account of BJP UP but got no information seconding the viral claim.
On checking further, we found an e-paper edition of Rajasthan Patrika that was published on March 17, 2020, which carried the viral article on its page number 17, under a satirical column on the occasion of Holi. Along with this, some other satirical articles were published.
Hence, with the above information, it can be concluded that the viral post is misleading.
