A video of a woman assaulting a Muslim man is being widely shared on social media with a claim that this is a fallout of screening of ‘The Kashmir Files’ which is running to packed houses across theatres in India. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, The Kashmir Files depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in 1990s. The release of the movie has triggered many incidents of hate speech against the minority community.
The video is being shared on Facebook with a Hindi caption, “The Kashmir Files के रुझान आने चालू हो गए”

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.
Using the InVid Tool, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and performed a Reverse Image Search. This directed us to a news report published by The Wire on October 19, 2021, which carried screengrabs from the viral video. According to the article, “Hindutva leader Madhu Sharma, known as Maa Madhura, was seen assaulting a Muslim man in a train and made him touch her feet for allegedly pushing her while passing through the railway coach gallery.”
Taking a cue from this, we searched further and found the same video uploaded on a verified Twitter handle on October 18, 2021. The text read, “Hindutva leader “Maa Madhura,” a disciple of Yati Narsinghanand, ass@ulted a Muslim man in a train and made him touch her feet for allegedly pushing her.”

Searching further, we found that the same incident was reported by The Print and Muslim Mirror in October 2021.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old video is being falsely linked to the movie ‘The Kashmir Files’. Therefore, the viral claim is misleading.
