The year’s first cyclone (Cyclone Asani) is nearing the low-pressure area of southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining areas of the South Andaman sea.
The IMD bulletin confirmed that the low-pressure areas over the Bay of Bengal will become well-marked by March 20 and will likely turn into a cyclone on March 21. It will then move along the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and reach the Bangladesh-north Myanmar coast on March 22.
Indian Coast Guard ( ICG) is laying weather warnings to all the mariners and fishermen at sea in the affected areas. Earlier, with the cyclone brewing over the region, the Andaman administration issued a warning appealing to fishermen to not venture into the sea during the period of cyclone i.e. between March 19 to March 22.
In the wake of the forecast, the Island administration has started its preparation by activating emergency control rooms. Chief Secretary Jitendra Narain reviewed the Union-Territory Level preparations to face cyclone Asani. Every officer was advised to take necessary actions to ensure the safety of citizens.
