Amid the ongoing evacuation process of Indian nationals from war-torn Ukraine, an image is being widely shared on social media claiming that Pakistani students too were holding the Indian flag in a bid to escape from Ukraine.
The text embedded in the image reads, “Pakistani students are using the Indian flag to escape Ukraine.”
The image is being shared on Facebook with a caption that reads, “Turkish students are also doing the same. Both Indian Flag and Indians provided great aid to the Pakistani people.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.
Starting with our investigation, we did a keyword search and found many credible media reports that stated, “Pakistani, Turkish students use the Indian flag to flee from Ukraine.” Check reports here and here.
We then performed a Reverse Image Search that directed us to an article published by TribuneIndia on February 26, 2022, that carried the same viral image. The article headline reads, “First batch of Indian students enters Hungary from Ukraine; embassy issues fresh advisory.”
The same image was also published in Deccan Chronicle on February 28, 2022. The image description read, “More batches of Indian students enter Hungary from Ukrainian side at Zahony crossing, travelling onward to Budapest for return to India by AI flight.”
Searching further, we found the video from which the screengrab was possibly taken tweeted by the Indian Embassy in Hungary on February 26, 2022. The text read, “More batches of Indian students enter Hungary from Ukrainian side at Zahony crossing, travelling onward to Budapest for return to India by AI flight today.”

Thus, it is evident from the above information that although it is true that Pakistani, Turkish students did use the Indian flag to escape war-torn Ukraine, but the viral image is of Indian nationals being evacuated from Ukraine. Therefore, the viral claim is misleading.
