‘The Kashmir Files’ premiered on the silver screen on March 11, 2022. The movie starring Anupam Kher and Mithun Chakraborty depicts the endless cycle of violence and the torture Kashmiri pandits faced in the 1990s. The movie is being widely acclaimed from all quarters and has been declared ‘Tax Free’ in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Haryana till now.
In this backdrop, a video featuring BJP patriarch L K Advani has surfaced on social media platforms claiming that he was unable to hold back his tears when he watched the movie. The 45-second video shows Advani in an emotional state and also shows his daughter Pratibha sitting right next to him.
A Facebook user shared the video with the caption, “Lal Krishna Advani ji had himself reached the cinema hall to watch “The Kashmir Files” even at this age, probably could not stop himself and cried. Think how terrible and barbaric that scene must have been, which our Kashmiri Hindus themselves must have endured. #TheKashmirFiles. (sic)”
The video is doing rounds on Twitter with the same claim.

On performing relevant keyword searches on Google, we found an India Today report featuring a screengrab from the viral video. The article was published on February 10, 2020, with the title, “LK Advani breaks down at Shikara screening. Watch video.”
According to the report, the veteran BJP leader attended the screening of Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Shikara, a movie based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. The movie showed LK Advani getting emotional at the movie theatre during the screening.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra shared the clip of LK Advani watching Shikara in the national capital on Twitter. He wrote, “Shri L K Advani at the special screening of #Shikara We are so humbled and grateful for your blessings and your appreciation for the film Sir. @foxstarhindi @rahulpandita.”
