Fact Check: This Image Of Sikhs Offering ‘Langar’ Is NOT From War-Hit Ukraine; Here’s The Truth

Date:

As Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to launch a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, several images and videos have surfaced from the war-hit country of Ukraine. One such image shows a food cart that has “Guru Nanak’s Langar Good Bye Hunger” written on it. The image is being shared with a claim that the visuals are from Ukraine after Russia invaded the country on February 24, 2022.

A Facebook user shared the image with a caption in Hindi that roughly translated to, “Guru’s Langar in Ukraine. Salute”

The same image is also doing rounds on Twitter with the same claim.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral image and found it to be shared with a misleading claim.

On performing a Reverse Image Search, we found the same image posted on the “We The Shikhs” Facebook page on August 6, 2018.

“Canada’s first Free Food Truck – Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s LANGAR – Goodbye Hunger. Everybody is welcome here regardless of Faith, Gender, Age, Caste or Status. #WeTheSikhs #Langar #GuruNanakDevJi #proudtobesikh,” reads the caption with the same image.

‘We The Sikhs’ also posted the same on their Twitter page with the same caption.

Clearly, the image is over 3 years old and is not related to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

However, it is true that the Sikh community has arranged langar in war-hit Ukraine for Indian students and for others who are trying to get out of the capital city amid full-scale Russian assault.

Hence, it is clear that the post is misleading.
