Amid ongoing assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, a video of union minister Smriti Irani has surfaced on social media platforms. The video shows Irani falling off the stage and is being shared as that of a recent happening in Amethi.
A Facebook user shared the video with a caption in Hindi that translates to, “Smriti Irani fell from a truck in Amethi today)

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral video and found it to be shared with a false claim.
On performing relevant keyword searches, we found the video uploaded on NDTV YouTube page on April 17, 2014.
“BJP candidate Smriti Irani, who is pitted against Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, took a tumble while getting off the stage. She, however, escaped unhurt,” reads the description of the video.
During 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Smriti Irani had contested from UP’s Amethi against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. She addressed a rally on April 7, 2014, in Amethi. Pictures of the rally, whose video is now going viral, can be found in this Amar Ujala article.
Hence, it can be concluded that an old video is being falsely shared as recent.
