Fact Check: Visuals From Computer Game Shared As Visuals Of Russian Airstrikes On Ukraine

Date:

On February 24, 2022, Russian troops launched military operations in Ukraine. Against this backdrop, a short video clip has surfaced on social media platforms showing missiles being launched in the dark sky with the claim that it shows the airstrikes done by Russia on Ukraine.

The video was shared on Facebook with the caption, “Russia is invading Ukraine!!!!! Via Twitter at 8pm #ukrain.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral video and found it to be shared with a false claim. The visuals are of a computer game named “War Thunder.”

On performing Reverse Image Search, we found the longer version of the video uploaded on a YouTube page on December 15, 2021. “The Iron Dome in War Thunder #shorts,” reads the title of the video.

“This was the final segment in the countdown for the latest teaser. Cover your heads!” reads the description of the video.

The game was streamed live on the same YouTube page on December 13, 2021. The same visuals can be seen in the video.

Therefore, with the above information, we can conclude that visuals from a game are being falsely shared to show airstrikes carried out by Russia on Ukraine.
