Fact Check: Did Yogi Adityanath Make Children Sit In His Helicopter During Poll Campaign? Here’s The Truth

Date:

Election campaigning is at its peak as polls continue to be held under different phases in Uttar Pradesh. The last phase of polling in UP is March 7, 2022.

In this context, a post having two images has gone viral on social media. In one of the images, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath can be seen mingling with children and in the other one, some children can be seen sitting in what appears to be  helicopter. The post claims that the image is of Yogi Adityanath’s election campaign in Rai Bareli where he made some children sit in his chopper.

The images are being shared with a caption that reads, “आज मुख्यमंत्री मा.योगी जी रायबरेली में चुनावी जनसभा में थे, सभा मे मौजूद कुछ बच्चों से बात की और उन्हें अपने हेलीकॉप्टर में बिठाया…ये बच्चे मुख्यमंत्री योगी को और उनके हेलीकॉप्टर को देखने आए थे…संस्कार स्वयं परिचय दे देते हैं इसीलिये #आएगी_बीजेपी_ही…” (English translation: “Today Yogi Adityanath went to Raebareli to address election rally, he spoke to some children in the rally and made them sit in his helicopter. These children had visited to meet  CM Yogi and see his helicopter. Culture itself gives its evidence.”)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be misleading.

On searching with the keyword, ‘yogi, helicopter, children’ we found the same images were shared by Live Hindustan on February 17, 2019. The images were shared with a title that read, “बच्चों को अपने हेलीकाप्टर में बिठा खुश हुए योगी आदित्यनाथ” (English translation: ” Yogi Adityanath gets happy after making children sit in his helicopter.”) The report associated with the image suggested that when Yogi Adityanath went for inspection of Pipraich Sugar Mill then he called some children who were present there and spoke to them. He also made them sit in his helicopter for about 1:30 minutes. Children then came down and expressed their gratitude to CM Yogi.

The same images were also uploaded by Punjab Kesari on February 17, 2019. The report suggested that Yogi Adityanath went for inspection of Pipraich Sugar Mill as it was closed for the past 20 years and he wanted to reopen the mill with advanced technologies. The report also says that he met children who were near the mill and made them sit in his helicopter.

Hence, old images of Yogi Adityanath’s visit to Pipraich Sugar Mill is widely being shared as ‘he made children sit in his helicopter during his election campaign in Raebareli’. Thus, the viral post is misleading.
