Fact Check: Akhilesh Yadav’s Edited Video Viral Amid Assembly Polls

Amid the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, a video featuring Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has surfaced on social media platforms where he can be seen telling voters that if they want to break the law and take it in their own hands, they should vote for SP.

A Facebook user shared the video with a caption in Hindi that roughly translates to, “Rioters are with criminals, this is not new, this is SP.”

The video is also doing rounds on Twitter with the same claim.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral video and found it to be edited.

With the help of relevant keyword searches, we found a longer version of the video from which the viral video has been edited.

Akhilesh Yadav’s speech was streamed live on the official YouTube page of the Samajwadi Party on February 16, 2022. The relevant section can be seen at 23 minutes 52 seconds mark in the video wherein Yadav says that those who want to take law and order into their own hands and those who want to oppress the poor to not vote for the Samajwadi Party.

Therefore, it can be concluded that the viral video is edited.
