A video is widely being shared on social media in which police can be seen resorting to lathi charge against some protestors and some women in burkha are being dragged by police.
The video is being shared amid the ongoing hijab controversy with a claim that it is of a police crackdown against pro-hijab protestors in West Bengal. The video is with a caption that reads, “यह @MahuaMoitra और @MamataOfficial बंगाल के मुर्शिदाबाद जिले का वीडियो है। पहले लड़कियों को हिज़ाब और बुर्के में कॉलेज जाने से रोका गया। जब लड़कियों ने इसका विरोध किया तब पुलिस बर्बरतापूर्ण तरीकें से पेश आयी। @MahuaMoitra जी के संसद में दिए भाषण और एक्शन में बहुत फ़र्क़ है।” (English translation, “This video is of Mahua Moitra and Mamata Banerjee’s Murshidabad district of West Bengal. First girls were stopped from going to college in hijab and burkha. When girls protested against it then police showed brutality. There is a huge difference between the speech and action of Mahua Moitra.”)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be fake.
On breaking the video into multiple keyframes and doing a Google Reverse Image Search we found the same video was uploaded by Sahi Online TV News on September 15, 2021, with the title that read, “Bengaluru: Police resort to lathi-charge on students protesting against National Education Policy.”
Taking a hint we searched with keywords and found The Times Of India had also reported about the incident on September 14, 2021. According to the report, “The Bengaluru police used batons against protesting students who staged a march towards Vidhana Soudha. The Students of Campus Front of India gathered at Mysore bank circle and criticised Centre’ National Education Policy 2020.”
Hence a video of Karnataka showing police resorting to lathicharge on students protesting against National Education Policy is widely being shared with a false narrative linking it to the ongoing hijab controversy and West Bengal.
