A photo of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi standing with a woman is being widely shared on social media with a claim that she is Muskan Khan who stood up against a group of boys chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ in a college in Karnataka.
The image is being shared against the backdrop of the ongoing Hijab Row where clashes broke out in some parts of Karnataka as girls wearing hijab were not allowed to enter educational institutions.
The image is being shared on Facebook with a caption in Hindi that can be roughly translated in English to, “Karnataka’s hijab girl is with Rahul Gandhi Is she Pappu or a conspirator.”

Starting with our investigation, we performed a keyword search but could not find any credible news article corroborating the viral claim.
We then searched for people Rahul Gandhi met in the past few days and we came across a report by India Today which stated that Rahul met Congress leaders of Jharkhand in Delhi on February 8, 2022.
Some images of this meeting were shared by Jharkhand Congress in-charge Avinash Pandey on his Twitter handle.

On Avinash’s Twitter handle, we also found an aerial shot of this February 8 meeting in which a woman is seen in clothes that are matching the clothes of the woman in the viral image.
According to another news report, one of the women seen in the above meeting is Congress MLA named Amba Prasad. Taking a cue from this, we searched the social media handles of Amba Prasad and found a tweet in which she refuted the viral claim stating, “This is me @INCIndia Barkagaon MLA from the party. An attempt is being made to spread discord by calling this photo a girl in Karnataka’s burqa, so let me tell you that everyone in our party has respect and rights. Be it saffron clothes or hijab. @JharkhandPolice Please take action against those who comment on such tweets.”
