Fact Check: Fake Tweet Viral To Suggest UP CM Yogi Adityanath Made Provocative Comments Against Jat Community

Date:

Ahead of Uttar Pradesh elections, a screenshot of a tweet allegedly posted by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is being widely shared on social media. According to the screenshot, Yogi Adityanath threatened the Jat Community by stating that he “will cure all the heat of Jats of Kairana Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and Mathura.”

The tweet can be translated in English to, “On March 10, I will cure the heat of Jats of Kairana Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and Mathura. Vote for BJP.”

(Original Text: कैराना मुजफ्फरनगर, बागपत और मथुरा के जाटों की गर्मी का इलाज कर दूंगा10 मार्च को )

The image is being shared on Facebook with a caption in Hindi that can be roughly translated in English to, “May our heat be treated, Baba Tere Pe we are jat Jayant Chaudhary zindabad vote woke up Lok Dal’s.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be FALSE.

Starting with our investigation, we checked the official Twitter handle of Yogi Adityanath but could not find any such tweet on his handle. Doing a Twitter Advanced Search, we found out that Yogi Adityanath had made only one tweet about the Jat Community on September 18, 2018.

We looked carefully at the viral post and found that there are many mistakes in the viral screenshot. Also, the text written on the screenshot is bold and capital letters, whereas the text written on Twitter is not like this.

Searching further, we found a tweet by Yogi Adityanath dated January 29, 2022, that stated, “The candidate of the Tamanchawadi Party from Kairana is threatening, that means, the heat has not calmed down yet! After 10th March the heat will cool down.”

Taking a cue from this, we searched for media reports and found an article dated January 16, 2022, that reported, “when the sitting Samajwadi Party MLA from Kairana, Chaudhary Nahid Hasan, reached the Shamli collectorate office on January 15 to file his affidavit for nomination, the police arrested him under the Gangster Act. On this, Nahid Hasan made a scathing comment on the BJP and said that like Yogi, he is not going to cry due to a fake case.”

To Nahid Hasan’s sharp remark, Yogi Adityanath replied in a rally that “this heat, which is currently visible in some places in Kairana and Muzaffarnagar, will all subside. I can make Shimla in the heat up in May and June also.” Several news websites also published articles reporting the same.

This statement made by Yogi Adityanath was interpreted in different ways by different leaders and political parties. According to a news report by The Hindu, “Rashtriya Lok Dal supporters took the Chief Minister’s statement as disrespect to Jats.”

But, there is no proof that he tweeted directly threatening the Jat Community. Therefore, the viral claim is false.
