New Delhi: Slamming China for politicizing winter topics, India on Thursday said it will not attend the opening or closing ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
Commenting on reports that the PLA Commander who had participated in Galwan clashes which resulted in the loss of lives on both sides would be a torchbearer at the Beijing Winter Olympics, the official spokesperson of External Affairs Ministry Arindam Bagchi said on Thursday that it is regrettable that Chinese side has chosen to politicize an event like Olympics.
”It is indeed regrettable that the Chinese side has chosen to politicize an event like the Olympics. I wish to inform that the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of India in Beijing will not be attending the opening or the closing ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics,” the spokesperson said at a virtual media briefing here.
There will be 15 sports held at the Winter Olympics in Beijing this year and are officially slated to run from February 4-20, 2022
