FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found that the video is old.

We extracted keyframes of the video and put them through Reverse Image Search. We found screengrab of the same video in multiple reports from February 2020.

“Jamia Protesters Release Video Of Cops Attacking Students In Library,” the headline of the NDTV report read. The report also mentioned the CCTV footage dates back to December 15, 2019.

A report by The Indian Express also carried a screengrab of the video with the caption, “Grab from video of police attacking students in the Jamia library on December 15, 2019.”

According to the report, “The video is from the evening of December 15, 2019, when Delhi Police and the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) entered the campus, ostensibly in pursuit of miscreants who had allegedly set buses on fire in the vicinity of the university.”

We also found a report by NDTV dated December 16, 2019, where they showed visuals from the Jamia library after the incident.

The video description reads: “Students inside Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University are seen running for cover inside the library as loud firing and the shattering of what appeared to be windows is heard in a video that emerged today, highlighting the gravity of the Sunday evening’s violence over the citizenship law. Jamia university has become the heart of protests that swept campuses across the country over the new law that came into force last week. Around 100 students of the university were detained yesterday (Dec 15, 2019) and released around 3:30 am today (December 16, 2019). ”

Hence, from the above incident, it is clear that the viral video is from 2019 and has no relation with the ongoing student protest in Uttar Pradesh.
